During installation of the rivet nut, excess polymer material is scraped off the shank towards the head, creating a seal between the flush head and the base metal into which the insert is riveted. The seal is only 0.25mm thick, suitable for stainless and galvanized steel, good temperature and chemical resistance, suitable for water and many automotive fluids. Half hex rivet nuts must adhere to the recommended hex hole radius, but this resin seal provides an IP67 waterproof assembly when properly installed in a properly shaped hole.
